SCRIPPS HEALTH/CCRS

Recently there has been a massive influx of liens filed at the San Diego WCAB by California Compensation Recovery Services, Inc. (CCRS) on behalf of Scripps Healthcare and its affiliates.  The liens are being filed for dates of service between January 1, 1991 and December 31, 2002.  All are on “zero balance” or “closed A/R” workers’ compensation accounts.  These are accounts where Scripps was paid for services, accepted the payment as full and final satisfaction based on either fee schedule or bill review, wrote off the balance, and did nothing further to pursue a claim

On August 3, 2007 Scripps entered into a contract with CCRS to allow them to “resurrect” approximately 91,000 of these old closed workers’ compensation accounts.  CSSI is now filing liens and attempting to collect on them.  Some of the dates of service are 17 years old on cases which were settled and destroyed almost two decades ago.

Heggeness, Sweet, Simington & Patrico, A P.C. is leading the charge to put a stop to this unfair business practice.  In continuing our nearly 40 year history of exposing and defeating unfair and unlawful business practices by workers’ compensation providers,  we have filed a petition for consolidation of all Scripps Health WCAB liens during the period in question.
